Among them, the retail sales of consumer goods other than automobiles was 9,792 billion yuan, an increase of 3.6%. After deducting the price factor, the total retail sales of consumer goods in the first quarter actually increased by 1.3% year-on-year.
In March, the total retail sales of social consumer goods was 3,423.3 billion yuan, down 3.5% year-on-year. Among them, the retail sales of consumer goods other than automobiles reached 3,056 billion yuan, down 3.0%.
According to the location of business units, the retail sales of urban consumer goods in the first quarter was 9,429.2 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 3.2%; The retail sales of rural consumer goods reached 1,436.7 billion yuan, an increase of 3.5%. In March, the retail sales of urban consumer goods was 2,969.9 billion yuan, down 3.6% year-on-year; The retail sales of rural consumer goods reached 453.4 billion yuan, down by 3.3%.
According to consumption types, the retail sales of goods in the first quarter was 9.8 trillion yuan, up 3.6% year-on-year; The catering revenue was 1,065.3 billion yuan, up by 0.5%. In March, the retail sales of commodities reached 3,129.8 billion yuan, down 2.1% year-on-year; The catering revenue was 293.5 billion yuan, down by 16.4%.
According to the retail format, the retail sales of supermarkets, convenience stores, specialty store and specialty stores in retail units above designated size increased by 3.2%, 10.1%, 6.6% and 1.0% respectively in the first quarter, while department stores decreased by 3.3%.
In the first quarter, the national online retail sales reached 3,012 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.6%. Among them, the online retail sales of physical goods was 2,525.7 billion yuan, an increase of 8.8%, accounting for 23.2% of the total retail sales of social consumer goods; In the online retail sales of physical goods, food, clothing and consumer goods increased by 13.5%, 0.9% and 10.6% respectively.

1. Interpretation of indicators
Total retail sales of social consumer goods: refers to the amount of physical goods sold by enterprises (units and self-employed) to individuals and social groups for non-production and non-operation through transactions, as well as the amount of income obtained from providing catering services.
Online retail sales: refers to the sum of retail sales of goods and services realized through public online trading platforms (including self-built websites and third-party platforms). Goods and services include physical goods and non-physical goods (such as virtual goods and service goods).
The total retail sales of social consumer goods includes online retail sales of physical goods, but does not include online retail sales of non-physical goods.
2. Statistical scope
Corporate enterprises, industrial activity units and self-employed individuals engaged in commodity retail activities or providing catering services. Among them, units above designated size refer to wholesale enterprises (units) with annual main business income of 20 million yuan or more, retail enterprises (units) with 5 million yuan or more, and accommodation and catering enterprises (units) with 2 million yuan or more.
Because the scope of enterprises (units) in wholesale and retail, accommodation and catering industries above designated size changes every year, in order to ensure that the data of this year is comparable to that of last year, the number of the same period used to calculate the year-on-year growth rate of various indicators such as the retail sales of consumer goods above designated size is consistent with the statistical scope of enterprises (units) in this period, and there are caliber differences with the data released last year. The main reason is that some enterprises (units) reach the quota standard and are included in the scope of investigation every year. At the same time, some enterprises (units) withdraw from the scope of investigation because of the smaller scale and the influence of newly started enterprises, bankrupt enterprises and enterprises (units) that note (suspend) sales.
3. Investigation methods
Conduct a full survey of units above the quota and conduct a sampling survey of units below the quota.
